Waddya up to, Bunny Maker?

Er .... ooops, you've caught me unawares and all in a pickle. The Burrow is a bit of a mess as I have been re-vamping my Half an Acre shop on Not on The High Street . I've been checking I have the designs ready for posting off, all bubble-wrapped and that and that. I'm also painting up some new fish, which I haven't done for ages. I have some new fishies ...

It's all the fault of those bunnies, they won't let me do anything else but make new ones and write about them!

You can click on the image to see a bigger one - its messier close up!
I'm doing something most unwise, painting amongst all my socks and fabric bits.  Heading for a messy disaster.  Using the sewing machine for drying painted things on is perhaps not the best of ideas.

Most of my paints have dried up of over the summer.  Ho hum.  Time for a shopping spree then.

I've sneekily brought the bunnies in to The Burrow too.  It is VERY cold out, you see.

Can you see Nosy, fast asleep in his favourite spot?  Mr Bunny Maker doesn't like them inside, in fact, he doesn't like then at all! Old meanie.

It's my workroom .......... *stamps feet*

The Bunny Maker's Shelf Heaven.

I am in shelf heaven.  All the sawing and banging, sanding and waxing is over.  The shelves are all up and everything is on them.  Look ...

Gaze upon their beauteous shelfiness..........

Added to this heaven, The Burrow shelves are also finished...

and I am all moved in and organized ....

I'm sitting at that desk right now!
The boys don't seem to mind that their playroom has quartered in size either.  Summer is on it's way and they will be outside most of the time then.  Trouble is, our right-hand neighbours have stolen all our footballs ...... a story for another day.

The Bunny Maker gets a new burrow.

Sock Bunny Maker's studio workroom

It all got too much.  The old burrow was just too small.  Or was there too much stuff?  Either way, something had to be done.  So it was.

The boys were turfed out of their playroom, the carpet was ripped up, the walls repainted (busy, busy) and a new floor laid (with aquablock thing for 'large spillage' protection).  It all got very messy. If fact the whole house somehow got turned upsidedown.  It reached a crisis of such messiness that the Bunny Maker had to go next door for a restorative glass of red.

Then, like a Phoenix from the ashes, her workroom arose .......  :D

It's still not finished as some shelves will run the length of that wall on the left - made from sanded and waxed scaffold boards.  Then there will be no NO JUNK on the floor.  Ha!

So, today sees the Bunny Maker seated at that desk, unable to find anything, with custom orders backing up, but bathed in the warm, fuzzy feeling of being able to arrange corners of the room ...

..endlessly, thus getting not much work done apart from some dedicated and blissful faffing.... and arranging of important bits ...... and Chameleons...

The Thnakes were hoping for a basket to hang out in but got to hang over yet another door...the blood rushes to their tongues and makes them very miserable.

There is a a dedicated packing up table too.  Soak up that image because, come next week , that table will be piled up with 'stuff' because, no matter how hard she tries, the Bunny Maker is messy, very messy.

Happy, happy, happy.

A thing happens to the Bunny Maker

Yesterday The Thing happened to me again.  The Thing were I end up doing something I had no intention of doing.  I went into my work room to fetch something, forgot what that something was and started a room overhaul instead.

As you can see from the picture, things always get worse before they get better.  I shifted out some furniture, digging stuff out from underneath like a dog after a buried bone.

Urgh. It was horrible.  At one point I had blocked myself in and with 1 sq ft of floor space and no access to the doorway I was pathetically turning on a sixpence moving piles from one side to the other, neither clearing nor tidying.  Just moving mess.
Then, as suddenly as it was started, it was done .... done dun dun dun duuuun!

There are now 'designated areas'.  Oooooooooo.
This, above, is For Painting and below is For Bunny Making.

It doesn't look a whole lot tidier but you will have to trust me on this one, it IS.

In three days exactly it will look as if there had been no sorting and tidying gone on whatsoever.

I have learnt that I am really, really, really messy.  I moan about the mess round the house, things dumped on surfaces, clothes on the floor. I try to blame it on the boys.  It was an odd realization that 85% of it was created by me.  Damn.

I now know why I started.  I'd been blog browsing and enviously oooing and ahhing over some gorgeous pictures of other people's workrooms.  All white, all shelved with matching baskets in lines and piles upon piles of neatly folded fabric and little jars of buttons.  Aha! I know why!  I exclaimed.  They have soooooo much time because they aren't selling anything, that's what it is! YAY! They can fold and stack and dust and line up all day long.  I, on the other hand, am nestling bunnies into boxes, packaging up, stitching and sewing all day. You see, the messier your workroom, the busier you are and therefore the more successful you are.  Sorted.  Justified.  Job done.

I still haven't remembered what I went into my room for in the first place.

A cry for help.

Hello? Hello? Can anyone hear me?
I'm down here ...... on the floor, under all the mess.
Please can someone come and get me out?

*several hours pass*

Help!
Please ...... is anyone out there? I'm surrounded by threads and paper and wooden bits and spilt paint and socks and
sandpaper and brushes and dust and apple cores .........

Is anyone out there?
Does anyone have a hoover? or a pitchfork?

Yucky

Today my workroom was too full. Not full of useful things but full of mess. Mess made by me. I tidy the place up and then fling stuff randomly around. It was so bad today that I couldn't even function in it. The picture shows my desk but AFTER I tidied it!
Notice (or rather, don't) that there is Farm Ville up on my lappy...

Everything started splurging in the hall too....

You know when everything around you just feels icky, itchy and in the way? Everywhere I stepped I knocked something and the floor was covered in robots and rockets!

Finally I decided to go out. Properly out. Not out of the room but out of the whole house. Things to do, you see. I got dressed. Yes, I hadn't done that yet. I got all ready and then it happened ..... I went blank. What was I going out for? What was it I needed to get? Could I remember? No. So I sat back down in my pickled and chaotic room feeling grimy and useless, having stepped my way there on a strip of bubble wrap, making it go pop .... pop ... pop, several jiffy bags and an assortment of scrap paper.
The only up-side of this day is that the boxes arrived for the mobiles.

AND IT'S DONE!!

It's finished! No, okay, I'm lying! It's all finished but for a big area behind me - so I can't see it when i'm working at the desk! I'd have to move the big heavy chest of drawers to paint the last bits .............. And my new blind isn't quite ready yet either but I can show you that later anyway.

So - what have I been doing in this lovely place? More fish, of course!

How not to decorate your workroom.

I have decided that these 'How Not To' posts will be a regular thing. It started with How not to put a map on a kitchen table. So, pay attention, this is Chapter Two - "How Not To Decorate Your Workroom".

Today I have been painting up some little fishies ready to go off to the lovely Green Tree Gallery in Sussex. Look, there they all are, all lined up and looking lovely - not quite finished but on their way. And, do you know what I decided about two thirds of the way through? Yep - I decided that the blue I was doing one fish with would make a lovely blue for the walls. My room is the only one still painted in the previous owners dull as ditchwater colour scheme - a cold, murky, pale greyish blue - guaranteed to make even the dullest day even duller. Lovely. So, right there and then I started painting the walls. Did I first remove everything from the room? No. Did I cover up or move my little fishies, so lovingly painted? No. Did I get a roller from the garage? No. Did I chose a very small brush from my collection and just starting painting round everything? Yes! Good grief! Why? And I'm tutting at the blue splatters on an already painted wooden bird!

It takes me ages, with this wee brush. Why don't I get a larger on? I've got the radio on and I'm listening to Radio 5 Live and having a lovely time, with my little brush and my lovely turquoise paint. Then I did a very mad thing - I re-hung my wooden stuff on the walls before it was properly dry. What is wrong with me? Has impatience reached a new level? Is it just that I can't bear to break to do anything so much so that it has to have the minimum of inpact on me? Was that last sentence English?

This is all because I have a new blind coming. A lovely blind. One of extreme funky big floweriness being made up by a friend who can do clever things such as making blinds. When it arrives I will show you my blind and you will love my blind. You will.

See those awful walls? "Soon they will be beautiful", you say. But remember the two pictures above? That was a few days ago. They still look the same today. I have not painted them anymore that what you can see. This is typical. I have painted exactly where the blind will be. This means that the blind will be put up and I will not bother to paint the rest of the room the rest of the room! My attitude stinks. 1/10 for effort.
